What is Ayurvedic Nutrition?

Learning about nutrition and how your body works are crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and is the most effective way to ensure vital health and longevity. Using principles from the world’s oldest science, Ayurveda which means “the science of life” or “knowledge of daily living,” we help you learn about your body in a fun, easy to digest manner that will enable you to make better food and lifestyle choices for life. Ayurveda is described as the art of living in harmony with the laws of nature. It teaches that the further removed we are from how our food is prepared and the more our food is removed from it’s natural state; the less likely it is to satisfy us.

In this time of economic uncertainty and climate change, we believe it is important for us humans to live in harmony with ourselves, with each other and with our bodies. By slowly incorporating healthy food and lifestyle choices, you can make a difference in yourself and ultimately the world. Ayurveda was created over 5,000 years ago and is possibly more relevant today than ever with all of our food related illnesses and constant cravings for caffeine, sugar, alcohol, etc. 

The nature of Ayurveda is that everyone is different and though we are a combination of the three body types, usually one predominates. When our type is out of balance it can create too much or too little weight, illness, disease, depression and any number of other disorders or imbalances.  Because each of us is different and each of our bodies has it’s own barometer for staying balanced, each session is individualized. There is no cut and paste recipe for success, diet or menu plan. We work together to create a system that works for you. To achieve your goal, you have to be ready and willing to make a change and take charge of your health and wellness! Learning how to maintain balance in your system will keep you healthy for life.

Path to Wellness

We use the positive inquiry approach and Ayurvedic principles to help you reach your health and wellness goals. Whatever your goals are, we can help. Whether you want to lose a lot of weight or just those nagging 10 pounds, or you have a serious health condition and need to make a change or you don’t feel yourself, are tired and lack energy, making small changes in your diet can greatly effect the outcome. We’ll find out what is currently going well with your diet and lifestyle choices. Learning about how your body works and focusing on the positive empowers you to move forward and make the best choices. 5 – 1 hour individually tailored sessions:  

1.      Intake questionnaire to get to know you and your needs and goals. We’ll do a nutrition analysis to find out the current state of your health and look at what is going well and where there is room for improvement.

2.     In Ayurveda a lot is determined by the rhythm of your pulse. We’ll check your pulse to help us evaluate the state of your health. Review your diet analysis and give some first step suggestions for balancing your system.

3.     In order to design a healthy lifestyle it’s important to learn how the body works and how best to nourish yours so that’s where we start. Learn more how your one of kind machine called your body operates and learn the best fuel (food) to keep you healthy for life.

4.     Ayruveda diet plan. Learn about Ayurveda and how it can work for you, what specific foods go best for your body type. We’ll work on a plan for you to use for life that is easy to alter. If you have specific ailments or a condition that needs reversing we’ll work on it and find ways to make simple, small changes to make a difference in how you feel.

5.     Follow up – after a period of time that together deem appropriate we’ll have a follow up meeting to review your progress, make suggestions and changes and get you looking and feeling your best.

Weight Loss

Today, because of the obesity epidemic, adult Americans have a shorter life expectancy than originally thought. Currently, 64.5% of adults, age 20 years and older, are overweight and 30.5% are obese.  In a recent address, the Surgeon General announced that obesity may surpass smoking as the number one killer in the U.S. 

Let Ayurveda help you shed pounds, look, feel and move your best. We won’t put on a diet per se but we will help you change your current diet. Have you ever heard the term “you have to lose?” Eating less is not always what’s needed. Many times people aren’t actually eating enough to kick start their metabolism…. Folks often want to loose weight so they stop eating but that puts your body in starvation mode and slows down your metabolism. Many clients have been amazed at much food they eat when they start on our plans and how much weight they’re losing at the same time. As well, sometimes folks are eating enough food but they aren’t enough of the right food. With Ayurveda you’ll learn what’s on your “eat often” list and “limit” list, you’ll have lots of choices and be satisfied.

Healthy Start

You are your children’s #1 role model. The best way to ensure your children grow up to be healthy adults is by showing them you eat healthy too.  This program is geared for pregnant women, new parents, or parents of younger children.

America’s health is declining and taking the brunt of it is our children.  Within the last 20 years, the amount of overweight children aged 6 to 11 has doubled (from 7 to 15 percent) and there are 3 times as many overweight adolescents aged 12 to 19 (up from 5 to 15 percent)!  It has recently been reported that children born today are the first generation in the history of America to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents!  This is due to obesity. With the rise of screen time is also the rise in inactivity and overeating. We’ll help you help your children learn good habits for life.

Lean Teen

Youth aged 11 to 18 will receive one-on-one consultation (parents are welcome to join).  Teens learn:

  • About human metabolism in a fun, easy to swallow and very digestible manner.

  • About the food choices available and how they are presented via the various forms of media.

  • Ways to make better choices and become motivated to live healthier lives into adulthood. 

Guide and Mentor

Some people have a lot of knowledge and know how to stay healthy but they need a partner, a guide and mentor to talk to and encourage them. Sometimes it helps if that person isn’t a close friend or family member. You can call on us. We can meet every week for half hour or however little or a lot you need to feel secure in your choices and supported in your efforts. We’ve been there for many and can be there for you!

With any healthy lifestyle plan there has to be fitness involved. Proper diet alone does not make a healthy body, our bodies were designed to move and groove so that’s what’s got to happen. If you need a jump start to your fitness routine, we’re here to help. We can provide:
